Known as Scimitar-horned Oryx, these animals are extinct in the wild. Once they could be found in the north and south of the Sahara desert but now only found in zoos. The reason for their drop in numbers had been due to hunting for meat, hide and horns.
Did You Know…
Scimitar-horned oryx have an interesting way of coping with a shortage of water. They are able to raise their body temperature by several degrees,  up to 116 degrees Fahrenheit, to conserve water by avoiding sweating.
Diet – grasses, herbs, juicy roots, and buds.
Threat Status – Extinct in the wild
